The word of the LORD came to me:
2. 인자야 너는 네 민족에게 말하여 이르라 가령 내가 칼을 한 땅에 임하게 한다 하자 그 땅 백성이 자기들 가운데의 하나를 택하여 파수꾼을 삼은
"Son of man, speak to your people and say to them, If I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them and make him their watchman,
3. 그 사람이 그 땅에 칼이 임함을 보고 나팔을 불어 백성에게 경고하되
and if he sees the sword coming upon the land and blows the trumpet and warns the people,
4. 그들이 나팔 소리를 듣고도 정신 차리지 아니하므로 그 임하는 칼에 제거함을 당하면 그 피가 자기의 머리로 돌아갈 것이라
then if anyone who hears the sound of the trumpet does not take warning, and the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.
5. 그가 경고를 받았던들 자기 생명을 보전하였을 것이나 나팔 소리를 듣고도 경고를 받지 아니하였으니 그 피가 자기에게로 돌아가리라
He heard the sound of the trumpet and did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But if he had taken warning, he would have saves his life.
6. 그러나 칼이 임함을 파수꾼이 보고도 나팔을 불지 아니하여 백성에게 경고하지 아니하므로 그 중의 한 사람이 그 임하는 칼에 제거 당하면 그는 자기 죄악으로 말미암아 제거 되려니와 그 죄는 내가 파수꾼의 손에서 찾으리라
But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet , so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand.
7. 인자야 내가 너를 이스라엘 족속의 파수꾼으로 삼음이 이와 같으니라 그런즉 너는 내 입의 말을 듣고 나를 대신하여 그들에게 경고할지어다
"So you, son of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me.
8. 가령 내가 악인에게 이르기를 악인아 너는 반드시 죽으리라 하였다 하자 네가 그 악인에게 말로 경고하여 그의 길에서 떠나게 하지 아니하면 그 악인은 자기 죄악으로 말미암아 죽으려니와 내가 그의 피를 네 손에서 찾으리라
If I say to the wicked, O wicked one, you shall surely die, and you do not speak to warn the wicked to turn from his way, that wicked person shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand.
9. 그러나 너는 악인에게 경고하여 돌이켜 그의 길에서 떠나라고 하되 그가 돌이켜 그의 길에서 떠나지 아니하면 그는 자기 죄악으로 말미암아 죽으려니와 너는 네 생명을 보전하리라
But if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, that person shall die in his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul.
10. 그런즉 인자야 너는 이스라엘 족속에게 이르기를 너희가 말하여 이르되 우리의 허물과 죄가 이미 우리에게 있어 우리로 그 가운데에서 쇠퇴하게 하니 어찌 능히 살리요 하거니와
"And you, son of man, say to the house of Israel, Thus have you said: 'Surely our transgression and our sins are upon us, and we rot away because of them. How then can we live?'
11. 너는 그들에게 말하라 주 여호와의 말씀이니라 나의 삶을 두고 맹세하노니 나는 악인이 죽는것을 기뻐하지 아니하고 악인이 그의 길에서 돌이켜 떠나 사는 것을 기뻐하노라 이스라엘 족속아 돌이키고 돌이키라 너희 악한 길에서 떠나라 어찌 죽고자 하느냐 하셨다 하라
Say to them, As I live, declares the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die, O house of Israel?
12. 인자야 너는 네 민족에게 이르기를 의인이 범죄하는 날에는 그 공의가 구원하지 못할 것이요 악인이 돌이켜 그 악에서 떠나는 날에는 그 악이 그를 엎드러뜨리지 못할 것인즉 의인이 범죄하는 날에는 그 의로 말미암아 살지 못하리라
"And you, son of man, say to your people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him when he transgresses, and as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall by it when he turns from his wickedness, and the righteousness when he sins.
13. 가령 내가 의인에게 말하기를 너는 살리라 하였다 하자 그가 그 공의를 스스로 믿고 죄악을 행하면 그 모든 의로운 행위가 하나도 기억되지 아니하리니 그가 그 지은 죄악으로 말미암아 곧 그 안에서 죽으리라
Though I say to the righteous that he shall surely live, yet if he trusts in his righteousness deeds shall be remembered, but in his injustice that he has done he shall die.
14. 가령 내가 악인에게 말하기를 너는 죽으리라 하였다 하자 그가 돌이켜 자기의 죄에서 떠나서 정의와 공의로 행하여
Again, though I say to the wicked, 'You shall surely die,' yet if he turns from his sin and does what is just and right,
15. 저당물을 도로 주며 강탈한 물건을 돌려보내고 생명의 율례를 지켜 행하여 죄악을 범하지 아니하면 그가 반드시 살고 죽지 아니할지라
if the wicked restores the pledge, gives back what he has taken by robbery, and walks in the statutes of life, not doing injustice, he shall surely live; he shall not die.
16. 그가 본래 범한 모든 죄가 기억되지 아니하리니 그가 반드시 살리라 이는 정의와 공의를 행하였음이라 하라
None of the sins that he has committed shall be remembered against him. He has done what is just and right; he shall surely live.
17. 그래도 네 민족은 말하기를 주의 길이 바르지 아니하다 하는도다 그러나 실상은 그들의 길이 바르지 아니하니라
"Yet your people say, 'The way of the Lord is not just,' when it is their own way that is not just.
18. 만일 의인이 돌이켜 그 공의에서 떠나 죄악을 범하면 그가 그 가운데에서 죽을 것이고
When the righteous turns from his righteousness and does injustice, he shall die for it.
19. 만일 악인이 돌이켜 그 악에서 떠나 정의와 공의대로 행하면 그가 그로 말미암아 살리라
And when the wicked turns from his wickedness and does what is just and right, he shall live by this.
20. 그러나 너희가 이르기를 주의 길이 바르지 아니하다 하는도다 이스라엘 족속아 나는 너희가 각기 행한 대로 심판하리라 하시니라
Yet you say, 'The way of the Lord is not just.' O house of Israel, I will judge each of you according to his ways."
21. 우리가 사로잡힌 지 열두째 해 열째 달 다섯째 날에 예루살렘에서부터 도망하여 온 자가 내게 나아와 말하기를 그 성이 함락되었다 하였는데
In the twelfth year of our exile, in the tenth month, on the fifth day of the month, a fugitive from Jerusalem came to me and said, "The city has been struck down."
22. 그 도망한 자가 내게 나아오기 전날 저녁에 여호와의 손이 내게 임하여 내 입을 여시더니 다음 아침 그 사람이 내게 나아올 그때에 내 입이 열리기로 내가 다시는 잠잠하지 아니하였노라
Now the hand of the LORD had been upon me the evening before the fugitive came; and he had opened my mouth by the time the man came to me in the morning, so my mouth was opened, and I was no longer mute.
23. 여호와의 말씀이 내게 임하여 이르시되
The word of the LORD came to me:
24. 인자야 이 이스라엘의 이 황폐한 땅에 거주하는 자들이 말하여 이르기를 아브라함은 오직 한 사람이라도 이 땅을 기업으로 얻었나니 우리가 많은즉 더욱 이 땅을 우리에게 기업으로 주신 것이 되느니라 하는도다
"Son of man, the inhabitants of these waste places in the land of Israel keep saying, Abraham was only one man, yet he got possession of the land; but we are many; the land is surely given us to possess.'
25. 그러므로 너는 그들에게 이르기를 주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시되 너희가 고기를 피째 먹으며 너희 우상들에게 눈을 들며 피를 흘리니 그 땅이 너희의 기업이 될까보냐
Therefore say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: You eat flesh with the blood and lift up your eyes to your idols and shed blood; shall you then possess the land?
26. 너희가 칼을 믿어 가증한 일을 행하며 각기 이웃의 아내를 더럽히니 그 땅이 너희의 기업이 될까 보냐 하고
You rely on the sword, you commit abominations, and each of you defiles his neighbor's wife; shall you then possess the land?
27. 너는 그들에게 이르기를 주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시되 내가 나의 삶을 두고 맹세하노니 황무지에 있는 자는 칼에 엎드러뜨리고 들에 있는 자는 들짐승에게 넘겨 먹히게 하고 산성과 굴에 있는 자는 전염병에 죽게 하리라
Say this to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: As I live, surely those who are in the waste places shall fall by the sword, and whoever is in the open field I will give to the beasts to be devoured, and those who are in strongholds and in caves shall die by pestilence.
28. 내가 그 땅이 황무지와 공포의 대상잉 되게 하고 그 권능의 교만을 그치게 하리니 이스라엘의 산들이 황폐하여 지나갈 사람이 없으리라
And I will make the land a desolation and a waste, and her proud might shall come to an end, and the mountains of Israel shall be so desolate that none will pass through.
29. 내가 그들이 행한 모든 가증한 일로 말미암아 그 땅을 황무지와 공포의 대상이 되게 하면 그 때에 내가 여호와인 줄을 그들이 알리라 하라
Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I have made the land a desolation and a waste because of all their abominations that they have committed.
30. 인자야 네 민족이 담 곁에서와 집 문에서 너에 대하여 말하며 각각 그 형제와 더불어 말하여 이르기를 자, 가서 여호와께로부터 무슨 말씀이 나오는가 들어 보자 하고
"As for you, son of man, your people who talk together about you by the walls and at the doors of the houses, say to one another, each to his brother, 'Come, and hear what the word is that comes from the LORD.'
31. 백성이 모이는 것같이 네게 나아오며 내 백성처럼 네 앞에 앉아서 네 말을 들으나 그대로 행하지 아니하니 이는 그 입으로는 사랑을 나타내어도 마음으로는 이익을 따름이라
And they come to you as people come, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear what you say but they will not do it; for with lustful talk in their mouths they act; their heart is set on their gain.
32. 그들은 네가 고운 음성으로 사랑의 노래를 하며 음악을 잘하는 자같이 여겼나니 네 말을 듣고도 행하지 아니하거니와
And behold, you are to them like one who sings lustful songs with a beautiful voice and plays well on an instrument, for they hear what you say, but they will not do it.
33. 그 말이 응하리니 응할 때에는 그들이 한 선지자가 자기 가운데에 있었음을 알리라
When this comesㅡ and come it will!ㅡ then they will know that a prophet has been among them."
