1.That night the king could not sleep; so he ordered the book of the chronicles, the record of his reign, to be brought in and read to him,
2.It was found recorded there that Mordecai had exposed Bigthana and Teresh, two of the kimg's officers who guarded the doorway, who had conspired to assassinate King Xerxes.
3."What honor and recognition had Mordecai received for this?" the king asked.
"Nothing had been done for him," his attendants answered.
4.The king said, "Who is in the court?" Now Haman had just entered the outer court of the palace to speak to the king about hanging Mordecai on the gallows he had erected for him.
5.His attendants answered, "Haman is standing in the court."
"Bring him in," the king ordered.
6.When Haman entered, the king asked him, "What should be done for the man the king delights to honor?"
Now Haman thought to himself, "Who is there that the king would rather honor than me?"
7.So he answered the king, "For the man the king delights to honor,
8.have them bring a royal robe the king has worn and a horse the king has ridden, one with a royal crest placed on its head.
9.Then let the robe and horse be entrusted to one of the king's most noble princes. Let them robe the man the king delights to honor, and lead him on the horse through the city streets, proclaiming before him, 'This is what is done for the man the king delights to honor!' "
10."Go at once," the king commanded Haman.
"Get the robe and the horse and do just as you have suggested for Mordecai the Jew, who is sits at the king's gate. Do not neglect anything you have recommanded."
11.So Haman got the robe and the horse. He robed Mordecai, and let him on horseback through the city streets, proclaiming before him, "This is what is done for the man the king delights to honor!"
12.Afterward Mordecai returned to the king's gate. But Haman rushed home, with his head covered in grief,
13.and told Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had happened to him.
His advisers and his wife Zeresh said to him, "Since Mordecai, before whom your downfall has started, is of Jewish origin, you cannot stand against him- you will surely come to ruin!"
14.While they were still talking with him, the king's eunuchs arrived and hurried Haman away to the banquet Esther had prepared.

2.그 일지에는 왕궁 문을 지키던 왕의 두 내시인 빅다나와 데레스가 왕을 죽이려 한 음모를 모르두개가 일러 주었다는 내용이 적혀 있었습니다.
3.왕이 물었습니다. "이 일을 한 모르두개에게 어떤 영광과 상을 주었느냐?" 신하들이 대답했습니다. "아무것도 주지 않았습니다."
4.왕이 다시 물었습니다. "누가 뜰에 있느냐? 마침 그 때 하만이 자기가 세운 장대에 모르두개를 매달기 위해서, 왕에게 부탁하고자 왕궁 바깥 뜰에 와 있었습니다.
5.왕을 모시는 신하들이 말했습니다. "하만이 뜰에 서 있습니다." 그러자 왕이 말했습니다. "들라 하여라."
6.하만이 들어오자 왕이 그에게 물었습니다. "내가 크게 높여 주고 싶은 사람이 있는데, 그 사람에게 어떻게 해주면 좋겠소?" 하만은 속으로, '왕이 높여 주고 싶은 사람이 나 말고 또 누가 있을까' 라고 생각하여
7.이렇게 대답했습니다. "왕께서 크게 높여 주고 싶은 사람이 있으시다면,
8.먼저 종들을 시켜, 왕께서 입으시는 옷과 왕께서 타시는 말을 내오게 하시고, 그 말의 머리는 관으로 꾸미게 하십시오.
9.그런 다음에 그 옷과 말을 왕께서 높여주고 싶은 사람에게 주십시오. 그리고 왕의 신하 가운데 가장 높은 사람을 시켜, 그 사람에게 왕의 옷을 입히게 하고, 말에 태운 사람을 성 안 거리로 다니게 하면서 '왕은 높여주고 싶은 사람에게 이렇게 해 주신다' 하며 외치게 하십시오."
10.왕이 하만에게 명령했습니다. "어서가서 왕궁 문에 앉아 있는 유다인 모르두개를 위해 그대가 말한 대로 옷과 말을 내어오시오. 그대가 말한 것에서 하나도 빠뜨리지 말고 그대로 하시오."
11.하만은 왕의 명령대로 옷과 말을 내어 와서 모르두개에게 옷을 입히고, 그를 말에 태워 '왕은 높여 주고 싶은 사람에게 이렇게 해 주신다' 하고 성 안 거리를 외치고 다녔습니다.
12.그런 뒤에 모르두개는 다시 왕궁 문으로 돌아갔습니다. 하만은 당황하고 부끄러워 얼굴을 가린채 서둘러 집으로 갔습니다.
13.하만은 아내 세레스와 모든 친구들에게 자기에게 일어난 일을 빠짐없이 이야기 했습니다. 하만의 아내와 그의 친구들이 말했습니다. "당신은 유다인인 모르두개 앞에서 무릎을 끓었으니, 이제 그에게 맞서 이길 수 없소. 계속 맞서려 한다면 당신은 틀림없이 망할 것이오.
14.그들의 말이 끝나기도 전에 왕의 내시들이 하만의 집에 와서, 에스더가 차린 잔치에 하만을 서둘러 데려갔습니다.
