1.In the land of Uz there lived a man whose name was Job. This man was blameless and upright; he feared God adn shunned evil.
2.He had seven sons and three daughters,
3.and he owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen and five hundred donkeys, and had a large number of servants. He was the greatest man among all the people of the East.
5.His sons used to take turns holding feasts in their homes, and they would invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them.
5.When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would send and have them purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, "Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts." This was Job's regular custom.
6.One day the angels came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came with them.
7.The Lord said to Satan, "Where have you come from?"
Satan answered the Lord, "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it."
8.Then the Lord said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil."
9."Does Job fear God for nothing?" Satan replied.
10."Heve you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land.
11.But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face."
12.The Lord said to Satan, "Very well, then, everythig he has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not lay a finger."
Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.
13.One day when Job's sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother's house,
14.a messenger came to Job and said, "The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby,
15.and the Sabeans attacked and carried them off. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!"
16.While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, "The fire of God fell from the sky and burned up the sheep and the servants, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!"
17.While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, "The Chaldeans formed three raiding parties and swept down on your camels and carried them off. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escape to tell you!"
18.While he was still speaking, yet another messenger came and said, "Your sons and daughers were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother's house,
19.when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on them ad they are dead, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!"
20.At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship
21.and said:
"Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart.
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away;
may the name of the Lord he praised."
22.In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.
1.우스 땅에 욥이라는 사람이 살고 있었습니다. 그 사람은 흠 없고 정직 했으며, 하나님을 사랑하고 악을 미워했습니다.
2.그에게는 일곱 명의 아들과 세 명의 딸이 있었습니다.
3.그는 양 칠천 마리, 낙타 삼천마리, 겨릿소 오백쌍, 암나귀 오백마리를 가졌고, 수많은 종들을 거느렸습니다. 그는 동방에서 으뜸가는 부자였습니다.
4..욥의 아들들은 자신의 생일이 돌아오면 형제와 누이들을 초대하여 잔치를 베풀어 함께 먹고 마셨습니다.
5.이렇게 잔치가 끝날 때마다, 욥은 자녀들을 불러 아침 일찍 일어나 태워 드리는 제사인 번제를 함께 드림으로 그들의 몸과 마음을 깨끗하게 하였습니다. 이는 '혹시 내 자녀들이 마음으로 죄를 짓거나 하나님을 저주했을지 모른다' 고 생각했기 때문입니다. 이와 같이 욥은 항상 신앙적으로 행동하였습니다.
6.어느 날, 천사들과 사탄이 여호와 앞에 섰습니다.
7.여호와께서 사탄에게 "어디에서 왔느냐?" 라고 물으셨습니다. 사탄이 여호와께 "세상 여기저기 두루 돌아다니다 왔습니다" 라고 말했습니다.
8.여호와께서는 사탄에게 "네가 내 종 욥을 주의하여 보았느냐" 욥처럼 흠없고 정직하며, 하나님을 사랑하고 악을 미워하는 자는 세상 어디에도 없다"라고 말씀하셨습니다.
9.그러자 사탄이 말했습니다. "욥이 아무런 이유 없이 하나님을 사랑하는줄 아십니까?
10.주께서 욥과 그 가정과 재산을 늘 지켜주지 않으셨습니까? 주께서 그가 하는 일마다 복을 주셔서 부유해진 것입니다.
11.그러나 이제 주께서 손을 내미셔서 그가 가진 모든 것을 빼앗아 보십시오. 그러면 그가 주님을 똑바로 보며 저주할 것입니다."
12.여호와께서 사탄에게 말씀하셨습니다. "좋다. 그가 가진 모든 것에 대해 네 마음대로 시험해 보아라. 그러나 그의 몸에는 손대지 마라!" 그러자 사탄은 곧 여호와 앞에서 떠나갔습니다.
13.하루는 욥의 자녀들이 맏형 집에 모여 음식을 먹으며 포도주를 마시고 있었습니다.
14.그 때, 한 심부름꾼이 욥에게 와서 이렇게 말했습니다. "소들은 쟁기질을 하고, 암나귀들은 그 곁에서 풀을 뜯고 있었습니다.
15.그런데 스바 사람들이 들이닥쳐 소들과 암나귀들을 빼앗고 종들을 칼로 쳐서 죽였습니다. 오직 저 혼자만 도망쳐 나와 이렇게 주인께 보고 그리는 것입니다."
16.그의 말이 끝나기도 전에 다른 사람이 와서 말했습니다. "하늘에서 하나님의 불이 떨어져 양 떼와 종들을 태워 버렸습니다. 오직 저만 간신히 도망쳐 주인께 보고 드리는 것입니다."
17.아직 이 사람의 말이 끝나기도 전에 또 다른 사람이 와서 말했습니다. "갈대아 강도가 세 무리나 들이닥쳐 낙타들을 빼앗고 종들을 칼로 쳐서 죽였습니다. 오직 저만 도망쳐 나와서 주인께 보고 드리는 것입니다."
18.아직 이 사람의 말이 끝나기도 전에 또 다른 사람이 와서 말했습니다. "주인님의 자녀들이 큰아들 집에 모여서 음식을 먹으며 포도주를 마시고 있었습니다.
19.그런데 갑자기 사막에서 강풍이 불어와 집의 네 모퉁이를 덮쳐 자녀분들이 깔려 죽고, 오직 저만 홀로 피해 나와서 보고 드리는 것입니다."
10.그러자 욥은 일어나 자기 옷을 찢으며 머리를 삭발하고 땅에 엎드려 하나님께 경배를 드리며
21.이렇게 말했습니다.
"내 어머니 태에서 벌거벗은 채로 나왔으니, 벌거벗은 채로 그 곳으로 돌아갈 것입니다.
주신 분도 여호와시요,
가져가신 분도 여호와시니
여호와의 이름이 찬양을 받으시기 바랍니다!"
22.이 모든 일을 겪고도 욥은 죄를 짓거나 어리석게 하나님을 원망하지 않았습니다.
