1.Then Eliphaz the Temanite replied:
2."Can a man be of benefit to God?
Can a wise man benefit to him?
3.What pleasure would it give the Almighty if you were righteous?
What would he gain if your ways were blameless?
4."Is it for your pity that he would rebukes you and brings charges against you?
5.Is not your wickedness great?
Are not your sins endless?
6.You demandede security from your brothers for no reason;
you stripped men of their clothing,
leaving them naked.
7.You gave no water to the weary
and you withheld food from the hungry,
8.though you were a powerful man, owning land-
an honored man, living on it.
9.And you sent windows away empty-handed and broke the strength of the fatherless.
10.That is why snares are all aound you,
why sudden peril terrifies you,
11.why it is so dark you cannot see,
and why a flood of water covers you.
12."Is not God in the heights of heaven?
And see how lofty are the highest stars!
13.Yet you say, 'What does God know?
Does he judge through such sarkness?
14.Thick clouds veil him, so he does not see us as he goes about in the vaultes heavens.'
15.Will you keep to the old path that evil men have trod?
16.They were carried off before their time,
their foundations washed away by a flood.
17.They said to God, 'Leave us alone!
What can the Almighty do to us?'
18.Yet it was he who filled their houses with good things,
so I stand aloof from the counsel of the wicked.
19.'The righteous see their ruin and rejoice;
the innocent mock them, saying,
20.Surely our foes are destroyed,
and fire devours their wealth.'
21."Submit to God and be at peace with him;
in this way prosperity will come to you.
22.Accept instruction from his mouth
and lay up his words in your heart.
23.If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored:
If you remove wickedness far from your tent and assign your nuggets to the dust,
your gold of Ophir to the rocks in the ravines,
25.then the Almighty will be your gold,
the choicest silver for you.
26.Surely then your will find delight in the Almighty
and will lift up your face to God.
27.You will pray to him, and he will hear you,
and your will fulfill your vows.
28.What you decide on will be done,
and light will shine on your ways.
29.When men are brought low and you say,
'Lift them up!'
then he will save the downcast.
30.He will delivered through the cleanness of your hands."
1.데만 사람 엘리바스가 대답하였습니다.
2."사람이 하나님께 무슨 유익이 된다는 말인가?
지혜로운 사람이라면 그분께 도움이 된다는 것인가?
3.자네의 의로움이 전능자에게 무슨 기쁨이 될까?
자네의 행실이 올바르다 한들 그분께 유익할까?
4.자네가 경건하기 때문에 그분이 책망하시며 자네를 심판하시겠는가?
5.자네의 악이 얼마나 크고, 자네 죄가 얼마나 많은지 아는가?
6.형제의 물건을 까닭 없이 저당잡고,
사람들의 옷을 빼앗아 벌거벗게 하지 않았나?
7.목마른 자에게 물을 주었나?
배고픈 자에게 음식을 주었나?
8.그러면서 권세나 부리려 하고,
귀한 체하며 살지 않았나?
9.과부를 빈손으로 쫓아 보내고, 고아들을 멸시하지 않았는가?
10.그러니 자네가 덫에 빠지고 공포에 휩싸이지.
11.어둠에 둘러싸여 캄캄해지고,
홍수에 덮인 이유가 무엇이겠나?
12.하나님께서 높은 하늘에 계시지 않는가?
저 하늘의 별들이 얼마나 높은지 아는가?
13.자네가 말하길, '하나님께서 무엇을 아실까?
어둠이 덮였는데 그분이 판단하실수 있을까?
14.구름이 그분을 가리우기 때문에 그가 보실 수 없고,
그저 궁창을 지나다니실 뿐이지;
라고 하는구나.
15.자네도 악인들이 걷던 그 옛길을 걷고자 하는가?
16.그들은 때가 되기 전에 망했고,
강물이 그 기초까지 씻어 버리지 않았던가?
17.그 악인들은 하나님께 '우리를 내버려 두시오.
전능자가 우리에게 무엇을 할 수 있겠소?' 라고 했다네.
18.하나님은 저들의 집에 보물을 채우셨건만,
저들의 생각은 하나님과 상관이 없었지.
19.의인은 악인의 멸망을 보며 기뻐하고 죄 없는 자들은
악인을 조롱하며 말하네.
20.'정말로 우리의 원수가 망했군.
악인들의 재물이 불타도 말았군.'
21.이제 하나님께 굴복하고 화해하게나.
그러면 좋은 일이 기다릴걸세.
22.그분의 교훈을 듣고,
자네 마음에 새겨 두길 바라네.
23.자네가 전능자에게 돌아가면 살 것이네.
자네의 집에서 불의를 없애게나.
24.자네의 보물을 던져 버리고,
정금을 냇가 바위에 던져 버리게나.
25.그러면 전능자께서 자네의 금과 은이 되실 것일세.
26.그래야 자네가 전능자로 말미암아 즐거워할 수 있으며,
자네가 서원한 것을 그분께 갚을 수 있을 것세.
27.그래야 그분께서 자네의 기도에 응답하시고
자네가 그분 앞에 약속한 것을 지킬 수 있지 않겠나.
28.그러면 자네가 무슨 일을 하든지 형통하고,
자네가 가는 길에 빛이 환히 비췰 걸세.
29.자네가 낮아진 사람에게, '높이 될지어다! 라고 말한다면,
그분께서 높여 주실 것이네.
30.자네의 깨끗한 손으로 말미암아
죄인까지도 구원을 받을 것일세."
