1."이제는 나보다 어린 사람이 나를 조롱하는구나.
나는 그 아버지를 내 양 떼를 지키는 개보다 못한 자로 여겼는데.
2.그 나이 든 자들이 무슨 힘으로 내게 도움을 줄 수 있었겠나?
3.그들은 배고픔과 가난에 수척해져 밤중에 먹을거리를 찾아 광야를 배회하지 않았던가?
4.덤불 속에서 나물을 캐 먹고, 싸리나무 뿌리로 배를 채우던 저들이 아니었나?
5.도둑 취급을 받고 마을에서 쫒겨나,
6.음침한 산골짜기와 동굴과 바위 틈에서 살았지.
7.가시덤불 속에서 짐승처럼 부르짖고, 가시나무에 모였지.
8.그들은 이름도 없는 미련한 자들로, 고향에서도 쫓겨났지.
9.그런데 저들이 나를 조롱하고 있다니.
내가 저들의 말거리가 되다니.
10.저들은 나를 삻어하여 멀리하고,
내얼굴에 마구 침을 뱉고 있구나.
11.하나님께서 내 활시위를 풀고 나를 괴롭게 하시니,
저들이 나를 향해 덤비고 있구나.
12.오른편에서 그 천한 자들이 일어나
내 두 발을 걷어차고, 나를 둘러싸며 죽이려 하는구나.
13.저들이 내 길을 허물고 나를 죽이려 해도, 나를 도울 사람이 없구나.
14.저들이 무너진 성벽을 통해 공격하듯 밀고 들어와 나를 치니,
15.나는 공포에 질리고 내 체면은 바람 앞에 날리듯 없어졌으며,
내 생명은 구름이 사라지듯 위태롭네.
16.이제 내 영혼이 허물어지고 고난의 날들만이 나를 기다리는구나.
17.밤마다 내 뼈마디가 쑤시고, 그 고통때문에 쉴 틈이 없구나.
18.하나님의 강한 손이 내 옷을 움켜 잡으시고 옷깃을 조이시는구나.
19.그분이 나를 진훍탕에 던지시니 먼지와 재처럼 되었구나.
20.주님!
내가 주님께 부르짖으나 응답하지 않으시고,
주 앞에 섰으나 주께선 바라보기만 하십니다.
21.주께서 나를 잔인하게 다루시고, 그 강하신 손으로 나를 치십니다.
22.주님이 나를 들어 바람 위에 두시고 태풍 가운데서 빙빙 돌리시니,
23.주님께서는 나를 죽이려 하십니까?
나를 저 무덤으로 보내려 하십니까?
24.절망 중에 도와 달라고 부르짖으나 나를 도울자가 아무도 없구나.
25.내가 고생하는 사람을 보며 울지 않았던가?
가난한 자를 보고 불쌍히 여기지 않았던가?
26.행복을 기대했는데 재앙이 닥쳤고,
빛을 바랐는데 흑암이 덮치는구나.
27.마음이 뒤틀리니 쉴 수가 없고 고난의 날들만이 나를 반기는구나.
28.위로도 받지 못하고 슬퍼하고 방황하며 사람들에게 도와 달라고 외치지만,
29.난 이리 떼의 친구, 타조의 벗이로구나.
30.내 가죽이 검게 변하여 벗겨지고,
내 뼈는 열기로 펄펄 끓어오르는구나.
31.내 수금은 장례식 노래를 연주하고 내 피리는 슬픈 노래를 부르는구나."
1."But now they mock me, men younger than I,
whose fathers I would have disdained to put with my sheeps dogs.
2.Of what use was the strengh of their hand to me,
since their vigor had gone from them?
3.Haggard from want and hunger, they roamed the parched land in desolate wastelands at night.
4.In the brush they gathered salf herbs, and their food was the roof of the broom tree.
5.They were banished from their fellow men, shouted at as if they were thieves.
6.They were forced to live in the dry stream beds, among the rocks and in holes in the ground.
7.They brayed among the bushes and huddled in the undergrowth.
8.A base and nameless brood,
they driven out of the land.
9."And now their sons mock me in song;
I have become a byword among them.
10.They detest me and keep their distance;
they do not hesitate to spit in my face.
11.Now that God has unstrung my bow and afflicted me, they throw off restraint in my presence.
12.On my right the tribe attacks;
they lay snares for my feet,
they build their siege ramps against me.
13.They break up my road;
they succeed in destroying me-
without anyone's helping them.
14.They advanced as through a gaping breach;
amid the ruins they come rolling in.
15.Terrors overwhelm me;
my dignity is driven away as by the wind,
my safety vanishes like a cloud.
16."And now my life ebbs away;
days of suffering grip me.
17.Night pierces my bones; my gnawing pains never rest.
18.In his great power God becomes like clothing to me;
he binds me like the neck of my garment.
19.He throws me into the mud,
and I am rescued to dust and ashes.
20."I cry out to you, O God, but you do not answer;
I stand up, but you merely look at me.
You turn on my ruthlessly;
with the might of your hand you attack me.
22.You snatch me up and drive me before the wind;
you toss me about in the storm.
23.I know you will bring me down to death, to the place appointed for all the living.
24."Surely no one lays a hand on a broken man when he cries for help in his distress.
25.Have I not wept for those in trouble?
Has not my soul grieved for the poor?
26.Yet when I hoped for good, evil came;
when I looked for light, then came darkness.
27.The churning inside me never stops;
days of suffering confront me.
28.I go about blackened, but not by the sun;
I stand up in the assembly and cry for help.
29.I have become a brother of jackals,
a companion of owls.
30.My skin grows black and peels;
my body burns with fever.
31.My harp is tuned to mourning,
and my flute to the sound of wailing.
