1."I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a girl.
2.For what is man's lot from God above, his heritage from the Almighty on high?
3.Is it not ruin for the wicked,
disaster for those who do wrong?
4.Does he not see my ways
and count my every step?
5."If I have walked in falsehood or my foot has hurried atfer deceit-
6.Let God weigh me in honest scales and he will know that I am blameless-
7.if my steps have turned from the path, if my heart has been led by my eyes,
or if my hands have been defiled,
8.then may others eat what I have sown,
and my crops be uprooted.
9."If my heart ahs been enticed by a woman,
or if I have lurked at my neighbor's door,
10.then may I wife grind another man's grain, and may other men sleep with her.
11.For that would have been shameful,
a sin to be judged.
12.It is a fire that burns to Destruction;
it would have uprooted my harvest.
13."If I have denied justice to my menservants and maidservants
when they had a grievance against me,
14.what will I do when God confronts me?
What will I answer when I called to account?
15.Did not he who made me in the womb make them?
Did not the same one from us both within our mothers.
16."If I have denied the desires of the poor or let the eyes of the widow grow weary,
17.if I have ketp my bread to myself,
not sharing it with the fatherless-
18.but from my youth I reared him as would a father, and from my birth I guided the widow-
19.if I have seen anyone perishing for lack of clothing,
or a neady man without a garment,
20.and his heart did not bless me for warming him with a fleece from my sheep,
21.if I have raised my hand against the fatherless,
knowing that I had influence in court,
22.then let my arm fall from the shoulder, let it be broken off at the joint.
23.For I dreaded destruction from God,
and for fear of his splendor I could not do such things.
24."If I have put my trust in gold
or said to pure gold, 'You are my security,'
25.if I have rejoiced over my great wealth,
the fortune my hands had gained,
26.if I have regarded the sun in its radiance
or the moon moving in splendor,
27.so that my heart was secrety enticed
and my hand offered then a kiss of homage,
28.then these also would be sins to be judged,
for I would have been unfaithful to God on high.
29."If I have rejoiced at my enemy's misfortune or gloated over the trouble that came to him-
30.I have not allowed my mouth to sin by invoking a curse against his life-
31.if the men of my household have never said,
'Who has not had his fill of Job's meat?-
32.but no stranger had to spend the night in the street,
for my door was always open to the traveler-
33.if I have concealed my sin as men do,
by hiding my guilt in my heart
34.because I so feared the crowd and so dreaded the contempt of the clans that I kept silent and would not go outside
35.("Oh, that I had someone to hear me! I sign now my defense- let the Almighty answer me;
let my accuser put his indictment in writing.
36.Surely I would wear it on my shoulder,
I would put it on like a crown.
37.I would give him an account of my every step;
like a prince I would approach him.)-
38"if my land cries out against me and all its furrows are wet with tears,
39.if I have devoured its yield without payment or borken the spirit of its tenents
.
40.then let briers come up instead of wheat and weeds instead of barley."

1."내가 내 눈과 약속했는데 어찌 처녀를 주목하겠나?
2.그렇게 한다면 하늘의 하나님께서 내게 무엇을 주시며, 위에 계신 전능자께서 내게 어떤 유산을 주시겠나?
3.사악한 자에게 재앙이 떨어지고 악을 행하는 자에게 불행이 닥치지 않는가?
4.그분이 내 길을 살피시고 내 걸음을 헤아리시지 않는가?
5.내가 거짓말을 하거나 남을 속였던 적이 있던가?
6.나를 정확히 저울에 달아 보면 하나님께서는 내가 정직한 사람임을 아실 것이네.
7.언제 내가 바른 길에서 떠났던가?
내 마음이 언제 눈의 유혹에 넘어갔던가?
재 손에 죄를 지은 흔적이 남아 있던가?
8.만약 내가 나쁜 사람이라면,
내가 뿌린 씨를 남이 추수해 가고 내 농작물이 다 쓸모없게 되어도 어쩔 수 없을 것이네.
9.내가 언제 예쁜 여인에게 유혹되어 이웃집 문 밖에서 기웃거렸던가?
10.그랬다면 내 아내가 남의 집 하녀가 되고, 다른 남자들이 그녀를 끌어안아도 할 말이 없다네.
11.그런 짓은 부끄러운 범죄 행위니 어찌 심판을 피하겠는가?
12.그것은 모든 것을 집어삼키는 불과도 같이, 내 농작물을 몽땅 태워 버릴 것이네.
13.내 집 안에 있는 종들이 내게 불만을 터트린다고 저들을 괴롭힌 적이 있던가?
14.그랬다면 하나님께서 심판하시고 내게 따지실 텐데 무슨 말을 할 수 있겠나?
15.나를 어머니 태에서 만드신 그분께서 그 종들도 만드시지 않았나?
하나님께서 우리 모두를 만드시지 않았나?
16.내가 언제 가난한 사람의 기대를 저버리고 과부의 소망을 무시했던가?
17.나 혼자 맛있게 먹으면서 고아들을 못 본 체했던가?
18.그렇지 않네.
사실은 젋었을 때부터 저들을 돌보았고, 과부들에게 도움을 주었다네.
19.내가 입을 옷이 없는 사람을 못 본 체하고 덮을 이불이 없는 가난한 사람을 무시헸던가?
20.그들에게 양털 옷을 입혀 따뜻하게 해 주었더니 그들이 나를 축복하였다네.
21.내가 언제 지위를 이용하여 고아들을 무시하는 짓을 했던가?
22.만약 그랬다면 내 어깨가 떨어져 나가고 내 팔이 부러져도 좋네.
23.나는 하나님께서 보내시는 재앙을 두려워하네. 그 위엄 앞에 내가 어떻게 서겟는가?
24.내가 언제 금에 소망을 두고 정금을 우상처럼 소중히 여겼던가?
25.내가 언제 재산이 많다고 자랑하며, 내 손에 돈이 글러 들어 온다고 우쭐대던가?
26.태양이 빛을 발하는 것을 보고 청명한 달을 보며,
27.내 마음이 유혹을 받아 손을 모아 경배하던가?
28.이것 역시 심판 받아 마땅한 죄악이네.
그랬더라면 위에 계신 하나님을 배반한 것이지.
29.네가 언제, 원수가 망했다고 즐거워하고 재앙을 당했다고 기뻐했던가?
30.절대 그렇지 않다네. 나는 내 입술을 함부로 움직여 원수를 저주한 적이 없네.
31.내 집에서 일했던 사람들이 '그분의 고기로 배불리 먹지 않은 사람이 없다'고 말하지 않았던가?
32.나는 나그네를 거리에서 자도록 내버려 둔 적이 없고,
지나는 여행자에게도 문을 열어 대접했다네.
33.내가 다른 사람들 처럼 내 범죄 행위를 숨기고, 가슴에 묻어 둔 적이 있던가?
34.사람들이 모욕하는 것이 두려워서, 내 죄를 고백하지 않거나 밖으로 나가지 못한 적이 없네.
35.아, 누군가 내 말을 들을 사람이 있다면, 전능자께서 내 말을 판단해 주신다면,
아 내 원수가 나를 기소한 기소장이 있어, 그분이 판단하실수 있다면.
36.그렇다면 내가 그것을 내 어깨에 메고, 머리에 면류관처럼 쓰고 보일 텐데.
37.내가 행한 일들을 그분께 고하고, 왕자처럼 당당히 그분 앞에 나갈 수 있을텐데.
38.내 토지가 학대를 당했다고 나를 고소했던가?
밭이랑들이 울부짖은 적이 있던가?
39.값도 지불하지 않고 남의 농작물을 먹었던가? 그 농사 지은 자들의 기운을 꺽어 놓은 적이 있던가?
40.그랬더라면 밀 대신 가시덤불이 자라고, 보리 대신에 엉겅퀴가 자라게 될 것이네."
