1.Then Elihu said:
2."Hear my words, you wise men;
listen to me, you men of learning.
3.For the ear tests words as the tongue tasts food.
4.Let us discern for ourselves what is right;
let us learn together what is good.
5."Job says, 'I am innocent,
but God denies me justice.
6.Although I am right,
I am considered a liar; although I am guiltless,
his arrow inflicts an inacurable wound.'
7.What man is like Job, who drinks scorn like water?
8.He keeps company with evildoers;
he associates with wicked men.
9.For he says, 'It profits a man nothing
when he tries to please God.'
10."So listen to me, you men of understanding.
Far be it from God to do evil,
from the Almighty to do wrong.
11.He repays a man for what he has done;
he brings upon him what his conduct deserves.
12.It is unthinkable that God wound do wrong,
that the Almighty would pervert justice.
13.Who appointed him over the earth?
Who put him in charge of the whole world?
14.If it were his intention
and he withdrew his spirit and breath,
15.all mankind would perish together
and man would return to the dust.
16."If you have understanding, hear this;
listen to what I say.
17.Can he who hates justice govern?
Will you condemn the just and mighty One?
18.Is he not the One who says to king, 'You are worthless,'
and to nobles, 'You are wicked,'
19.who shows no partiality to princes
and does not favor the rich over the poor,
for they are all the work of his hands?
20.The die in an instant, in the middle of the night;
the people are shaken and they pass away;
the mighty are removed without human hand.
21."His eyes are on the ways of men;
he sees their every step.
22.There is no dark place, no deep shadow,
where evildoers can hide.
23.God has no need to examine men further,
that every should come before him for judgment.
24.Without inquiry he shatters the mighty and sets up others in their place.
25.Because he takes note of their deeds,
he overthrows them in the night and they are crushed.
26.He punishes them for their wickedness where everyone can see them,
27.because they turned from following him and had no regard for any of his ways.
28.They caused the cry of the poor to come before him,
so that he heard the cry of the needy.
29.But if he remains silent, who can condemn him?
If he hides his face, who can see him?
Yet his is over man and nation alike,
30.to keep a godless man from laying snares for the people.
31."Suppose a man says to God,
'I am guilty but will offend no more.
32.Teach me what I cannot see;
if I have done wrong, I will not do so again.'
33.Should God then reward you on your terms,
when you refuse to repent?
You must decide, not I;
so tell me what you know.
34."Men of understanding declare,
wise men who hear me say to me,
35.'Job speaks without knowledge;
his words lack insight.'
36.Oh, that Job might be tested to the utmost for answering like a wicked man!
37.To his sin he adds rebellion;
scornfully he claps his hands among us and multiplies his words against God."

2."현명한 어르신들이여, 내 말을 들으십시오.
총명한 여러분이시여, 내 이야기에 귀 기울여 주십시오.
3.귀가 말을 알아듣듯, 혀는 음식 맛을 느끼지요.
4.무엇이 옳고, 무엇이 선한 것인지 찾아보도록 합시가.
5.욥은 '나는 의롭지만 하나님께서는 나를 옳지 않게 여기신다' 고 주장했습니다.
6.'나는 정직한데 거짖말장이 취급을 당한다.
죄도 없는데 그분이 나를 쳐서 죽이려 하신다.'
7.세상에 이렇게 옳지 못한 말을 물 마시듯 하는 사람이 또 어디 있습니까?
8.그가 바로 악인들의 친구요, 불의한 사람들의 친구가 아니고 무엇이겠습니까?
9.욥은 겨우 '하나님을 기쁘시게 해도 별수가 없다! 라는 소리를 합니다.
10.그러니 현명하신 어른들이여,
내 말을 들어 보십시오.
하나님은 절대 악을 행하지 않으십니다.
전능자는 절대 잘못 행하지 않습니다.
11.그것은 그분이 사람이 행한 대로 갚아 주시고, 그들의 길을
보고 다루시기 때문입니다.
12.진실로 하나님은 악하게 행하실 수 없으며 전능자는 공의를 무너뜨리지 않습니다.
13.누가 하나님을 땅의 왕으로 세우셨습니까?
누가 하나님께 세상을 다스리도록 하셨습니까?
14.만일 그분이 자기만 생각하셔셔 영과 숨기운을 거두어 가신다면,
어떻게 될까요?
15.모든 사람이 다 망하고, 다시 흙으로 돌아가고 말 것입니다.
16.총명하신 욥 어르신, 내 말 뜻을 아시겠지요.
내 말을 귀담아 들으십시오.
17.공의를 미워하시는 분이라면 그가 어떻게 다스릴 수 있을까요?
당신이 의로우신 전능자가 잘못됐다고 말할 수 있습니까?
18.그분은 왕들에게도 '너희들은 쓸모없다' 하시고
귀족들에게도 '너희들은 의롭지 못하다' 고 말씀하십니다.
19.귀한 사람이라고 더 돌보시거나, 부자라고해서 가난한 사람보다 낫다고 여기지 않으십니다.
저들은 모두 그분이 만드신 피조물이니까요.
20.사람들은 밤중에 순식간에 죽을 수 있습니다.
부자라도 그분이 치시면 넘어져 죽고,
강한 자라도 하나님께서 손쉽게 없애 버릴 수 있습니다.
21.그분은 사람들의 행위를 늘 살피시고,
사람들의 모든 걸음걸이를 보시지요.
22.그렇기 때문에 악인들이 숨을 수 있는 곳은 아무 데도 없습니다.
캄캄한 데나 그늘진 곳에 숨을 수 있다고 생각하십니까?
23.하나님은 사람을 심판하시기 위해,
조사하실 필요도 없습니다.
24.그분은 물어 볼 필요도 없이 강한 사람이라도 금방 내리치시고,
그 자리에 다른 사람을 세우십니다.
25.이렇게 하나님은 사람들의 모든 행위를 다 아시기때문에 밤중에 저들을 치셔서
망하게 하시지요.
26.하나님께서 사람들 앞에서 악인들을 처벌하여 치시는 것은,
27.저들이 하나님을 떠나, 하나님의 말씀과 상관없이 제멋데로 살기 때문입니다.
28.악인들이 가난한 사람들을 울리면 하나님께서는 그 울부짖음을 들으십니다.
29.하나님께서 잠잠하셔도 누가 그에게 뭐라 할 수 있습니까?
만약 그분이 자기 얼굴을 사람들에게서 숨기신다면
누가 그분을 볼 수 있습니까?
30.그렇게 하시는 이유는 경건하지 못한 자가 왕이 되지 못하게 하고,
백성을 괴롭히는 자들이 통치하지 못하게 하기 위해서입니다.
31.누가 하나님께 '제가 처벌을 받았으니, 이제 더 이상 죄를 짖지 않겠습니다.
32.제가 못 본것을 보게 해 주십시오.
제가 잘못 했다면, 다시는 그리하지 않겠습니다' 라고 말하겠습니까?
33.당신이 죄를 인정하지 않기 때문에 하나니께서 당시 뜻데로 움직이실 거라 생각하십니까?
이것은 당신이 결정할 일입니다.
그러니 답할 말이 있다면 해 보십시오.
34.총명한 자가 말하며,
내 말을 듣는 자가 말합니다.
35.'옵의 말은 무식하고 지혜가 부족하지.'
36.나는 당신이 자기의 죄를 인정할 때까지 벌을 받아야 한다고 생각합니다.
37.당신은 죄를 인정하기는커녕 여전히 하나님을 모독하고,
조롱하듯 손뼉을 쳐대며 하나님께 대항하기 때문입니다."
